An ode to hip-hop based on area codes.

This collection is an ongoing project that began in 2012 with my first piece made with numbers/area codes layered on top of each other to create a portrait. Area codes have served not only as a marker of origin for hip hop artists but are claimed as a part of the artists identity as well. The process of layering the numbers is equally as important as the final product. Historically hip hop artists have been stigmatized and negatively stereotyped. This collection and process of creating requires the viewer to take closer inspection of the subject on multiple levels.
